Independent Living vs. Assisted Living - What's the Difference?
Our communities are designed around the concept of independent living; however, several communities also offer assisted living residences and respite care services on the same campus. The primary difference revolves around one's ability to manage the activities of daily living without assistance.
Sometimes it is difficult to know what the best lifestyle choice is for yourself or your loved one. The following are some guidelines to consider:
Independent Living
- Physically active and able to walk around the campus unaided
- Confident to manage medications
- Able to bathe and dress independently
- Free from memory loss or any debilitating physical ailment
Assisted Living
- Needs assistance with some of the activities of daily living such as:
- Walking
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Needs assistance with medication management
- Suffers from memory loss or impairment
- Requires nursing assistance
- Requires three prepared meals per day
